Wrinkle Treatment

What is a neuromodulator?

Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin proteins, commercially known as Botox® , Dysport®, Jeuveau®, or Xeomin® that work to interrupt the communication between nerve and facial muscle to result in a smooth, wrinkle-free, or wrinkle-reduced appearance.

With neuromodulators we can smooth out the lines caused by years of sun exposure, frowning, squinting, laughing, and deep thinking! There is no downtime, limited risk, and beautiful results that give you a refreshed, rested, and rejuvenated appearance. No one will even know that you had it, you will look so natural, but you will receive compliments on how rejuvenated you look!

Who is an ideal candidate?

Neuromodulators are ideal solutions for

individuals aged 18-65 looking for a

safe, non-surgical approach to the

reduction in the appearance of facial

wrinkles.

It will not help with sagging skin or with volume enhancement. It is only meant to relax the muscles which are responsible for forming dynamic lines in the face.

What areas can be treated?

  • Horizontal forehead lines

  • Frown lines in between the brows

  • Crow’s feet

  • Eyebrows to perform a lift and increase the brow arch

  • Upper lip area to reduce a "gummy smile"

  • Upper lip-flip to increase the appearance of a full upper lip

How are the injections performed?

A very small needle is used to inject the solution into the facial musculature and elicits very little pain depending on the area treated. The amount needed varies depending on the individual and desired results, but the amount is measured in "units". These units are very small and can be compared to the size of a teardrop!

When will I see results and how long will it last?

Results are not typically apparent until 3-7 days after treatment and typically last from 3-6 months depending on which product is used.

Are these injections harmful to my health? Aren't they "toxins"?

Many people are fearful to have a “toxin” injected into their face, wondering what the ill effects could be. The truth is, the aesthetic neuromodulators contain only tiny amounts of a highly purified Botulinum Toxin Protein, and the amount utilized cosmetically for the facial muscles is extremely minute. Despite the fear-invoking word “toxin”, botulinum injections for facial rhytids (wrinkles) are very safe, and if by chance you were not happy with your results, then it wears off after 3-4 months. The key to ensuring a good experience is to select an injector that has been properly trained in administration and technique.

Some History...

BOTOX®, the most well-known name in regard to neuromodulators, was the first one approved for cosmetic use in the United States by the FDA in 2002, but research actually began in the 1950s when Dr. Vernon Brooks discovered the potential muscle “relaxing” effects. For over 2 decades now it has been researched and utilized in a number of treatment modalities including cervical dystonia (severe neck spasms), hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating), migraines, TMJ, overactive bladder, crossed-eyes, and may even be beneficial in treating depression! Dysport® was approved shortly after BOTOX® in 2009 for aesthetic use,  Xeomin® in 2011, and Jeuveau® most recently in 2019.
